So today makes it 56 days since the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico...WTF is going on?! seriously, i cannot believe that in this day and age we haven't figured out how to contain and clean up this damn mess?!
The government should have stepped in a long time ago and not just taken BP's word that they would handle the situation!! But to be perfectly fair, I understand that its not that easy for the government to just step in. After the 1989 Exxon Valdez spill in Alaska, Congress dictated that oil companies be responsible for dealing with major accidents including paying for all cleanup with oversight by federal agencies. Spills on land are overseen by the Environmental Protection Agency, offshore spills by the Coast Guard.
What really struck a nerve though is Exxon Mobil's stupid comments! The chief executive of Exxon Mobil Corp. tells Congress the Gulf oil spill wouldn't have happened if BP had properly designed its deepwater well, followed procedures, trained its employees and conducted adequate tests. Really? Really?!
Exxon has the nerve to throw stones? Are they smoking crack, or did they just forget about they're little incident in '89?! I guess they forgot they had a ship with 10.8 million gallons of crude oil and no working sonar system! And they were also the assholes who were maneuvering a ship with no working sonar system, a worthless crew and a drunk captain!!! the third mate would never have collided with Bligh Reef had he looked at his sonar. But the sonar was not turned on. In fact, the tanker's sonar was left broken and disabled for more than a year before the disaster, and Exxon management knew it!!
ok I'm done!!
